Your plumbing should have a good flow. It should come out of the pipes properly and should go down the drain properly as well. If you have a slow drip or trickle after you've turned off your faucet, it's a problem, and if you have a slow drain, it's also an issue. These two issues can become a major problem if you don't take care of them in time and allow them to worsen instead. If you have an issue with your plumbing, you should call a professional plumber to help repair the issues and to prevent further problems. Read on for some tips to help prevent a problem in the first place.

Watch What Goes Into Your Drains

Watch what is going down the drains in your home and pay attention to prevent an issue. You should be using drain stops in all of your drains to prevent anything too large from getting into your drains. These stops should be used in sinks and bathtubs, as well as in shower drains. If anything that doesn't belong in the drains ends up in the drain, you should try to get it out right away, or at least keep an eye on it. Food should never go down the drain unless you have a working garbage disposal. Other items aside from human waste and toilet paper do not belong in toilet drains either.

Clean Faucet Strainers

If your faucet is not flowing properly, it may be because the faucet strainer is clogged. Twist off the strainer at the top of the faucet where the water comes out, then rinse it thoroughly to remove built-up minerals and other debris. Your water should come out in a steady flow, and if it doesn't, you should hire a plumber to replace the faucet if necessary.

Be Gentle On Handles

Be gentle on the faucet handles in your home, as turning them too harshly can cause the washer inside of the handle to break down easily and could cause a leak from the faucet handles. Eventually, the water running out of the handles could erode the faucet itself and look unsightly and will need to be replaced entirely. Be gentle on the faucet handles and turn them on and off gently. If you notice a leak, have it repaired immediately.

If you have any issues with the plumbing in your home, you should hire a professional residential plumber to make the repairs for you to ensure they are done properly and to prevent any further issues.

About Me
The Mind of a Plumber

Have you ever wished you could venture into the mind of a plumber and see how they think? We certainly have. We are always amazed how plumbers can design a system of pipes to fit a space and then have everything work so perfectly. They have a true talent — one that we have always sought to understand on a deeper level. That's actually why we created this blog. We are hoping to post articles here that give you a peek into the world of a plumber. And we know we will gain additional insight as we write about plumbers, too.
